All English Champions League Final

Manchester City vs. Chelsea

Manchester City vs. Chelsea

Manchester City and Chelsea have sealed their positions as Champions League finalists after both teams showcased stellar performances against tough oppositions in PSG and Real Madrid respectively. This is going to be an all English final in the competition since Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur met in the 2018-19 final.

Manchester City's Win Over PSG

Riyad Mahrez
Riyad Mahrez scored a brace

Riyad Mahrez scored twice for the Manchester Blues as they gave a really good team performance with some terrific defensive display from the rock-solid duo of John Stones and Ruben Dias. Goalkeeper Ederson faced no shots between the sticks as PSG failed to have even one shot on target after a nightmare of a game for Mauro Icardi who had a really bad night. The striker made just 17 touches in the first half and was nearly absent in the second half before being replaced by Moise Kean at the hour mark. Soon after Mahrez scored his second at the 63rd minute, Angel Di Maria lost his cool and had a cheap kick at Fernandinho on the touchline for which Di Maria was sent off. Marco Verratti was the best player for PSG but seemed to have lost his cool towards the end of the game. Pep Guardiola's team were really dominant and always showed from the first minute that they deserved the win. If only Mbappe was fit to play this fixture, things might have turned out differently, who knows?

Chelsea Defeat Real Madrid

Pulisic and Mount
Mason Mount made it 2-0

This semi-final was a game where Real Madrid dominated possession and played many passes but Chelsea did the scoring. Chelsea were threatening throughout the game with 15 shots against the 7 of Real Madrid. Benzema worked Mendy with a really good curved strike from outside the box. Moments after, Chelsea took the lead with Timo Werner heading into an empty net after Kai Havertz cheekily chipped the ball above Courtois which unfortunately struck the crossbar. Timo Werner did score before this goal but it was disallowed for offside. Havertz struck the crossbar again with a header early into the second half. Until the 85th minute, Real Madrid just needed one goal to keep them in the tie, but never looked like getting it thanks to some solid defense from Andreas Christensen, Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger. Mason Mount made it 2-0 for Chelsea at the 85th minute after Pulisic squared the ball into the box with Mount placing the ball beyond Courtois into the top right of the frame. Modric was the only outfield player for Real Madrid who displayed some genius while the other being much below par. Unfortunate for Eden Hazard to be defeated by his old team-mates, but that is the Champions League, the league of the best clubs in Europe.
